Moonflower Books wins Nick Robinson Best Newcomer at IPG Awards 2023

We are over the moon to have been awarded the Nick Robinson Award for Best Newcomer at the Independent Publisher’s Guild Awards 2023!

The Independent Publishing Awards are an annual celebration of publishing excellence, recognising independent publishers who are working at the top of their game. The Nick Robinson Newcomer Award in particular celebrates diversity and entrepreneurialism in independent publishing.

Here’s what the judges had to say about Moonflower:

Moonflower Books has been publishing books for less than two years, but has already had several successes in competitive fields of genre fiction.

Judges liked its very effective publicity work that has secured a lot of broadcast and print coverage, and its collaboration with authors.

These are tough markets for small publishers to break into, but Moonflower is already making money and you get the feeling it will grow very quickly.
— IPA 2023 Judges

Moonflower Books was selected as the winner from a shortlist of six small independent publishers including Confer & Karnac, Guppy Books, Howgate Publishing, Phoenix Publishing and Renard Press.

Publisher Christi Daugherty and MD Jack Jewers accepted the award on behalf of Moonflower, and said:

It has been amazing to see Moonflower grow from our little lockdown project to the thriving publishing house it is today. We launched Moonflower because we felt there was a better way to do publishing: a way that didn’t follow trends and so gave unconventional titles a chance; a way that rewarded authors more fairly for their work; and a way that meant our team would be able to maintain a good work/life balance and love coming to work every day. We passionately believed this was possible, and to win this award is such a wonderful validation that our belief was correct.

We are truly blessed with the calibre of authors who have chosen to entrust Moonflower with their work, and are well aware that we wouldn’t be here today without their talent and enthusiasm. We hope to continue bringing their wonderful work to the world for many years to come.

And the same goes for our small but passionate team – they have helped us build Moonflower from the ground up, and we are so grateful to them. We’d especially like to thank our Nibbie-nominated designer, Jasmine Aurora, our legendary PR who is truly the best in the business, Tory Lyne-Pirkis, and our almost freakishly organised comms director, Emma Waring.

We would like to thank the IPG for this accolade, as well as for all their help and support on our journey. And we would like to extend a huge congratulations to joint winners, Phoenix Publishing House, and our fellow nominees.
